Floating pavilion

Educational pavilion for schoolchildren
2007 – Msc Architecture
Faculty of Architecture, Technical University Delft

The pavilion floats like an organism on the water surface, with its remarkable appearance it immediately attracts the attention. The pavilion functions as a floating workshop space for school children. The exceptional form, structure and the odd use of material awake their curiosity.
The façade consists of steel trusses, spanned by ETFE cushions. ETFE foil is a very light material with a large lifespan and an extremely high isolating quality. The material is 100 % recyclable.
These aspects make the material very durable. The air in the cushions serves as heat storage.
